A softer take on a classic silhouette
This single Ainsley wall light keeps the same traditional shape and retro turned cups as the rest of the range, but in a warmer Burnished Brass finish. A cased opal glass shade sits inside a Burnished Brass trim ring, giving it a softer, more vintage feel than the chrome version and making it a good fit for anyone after a brass bathroom wall light with a period feel.
Burnished Brass and opal glass
Burnished Brass brings warmth to period bathrooms, cloakrooms and hallways, and sits well alongside brass taps, mirror frames and other warm metal fittings. The body is steel, and the opal glass shade is cased so it diffuses light evenly rather than showing the bulb itself.
How it works
This is a single wall mounted light that fixes flush to the wall on a standard plate. It takes 1 x 3.5W LED G9 bulb, which isn't supplied, so you'll need to add one to your order. It's dimmable, but only if you fit dimmable LED bulbs. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's rated Class I.
Where it works best
The Burnished Brass Ainsley carries a genuine IP44 rating, which makes it suitable for bathroom zone 2 and the outside zone, as covered in our bathroom lighting zones and regulations guide. Beyond the bathroom, it also works well as an accent light in a hallway, cloakroom or dressing room with warmer, traditional decor.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started out making outdoor lanterns, with just 14 products in that first catalogue. After Phil died in 1937, Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman who had already bought half the business, took it over fully and moved his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run it. His grandson Rick joined the company in 1969, the start of a fifty year career, and by around 2000 the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had begun taking on leadership roles of their own. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this Ainsley wall light to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification, which is part of what allows it to carry the IP44 rating that makes it suitable for a UK bathroom.
