This is the biggest wall light in Hinkley's Ainsley collection, a three light design that spans 61cm wide. In Burnished Brass it takes on a warmer, more traditional character than the range's chrome finish, with three glass shades held on the collection's signature turned cups. Because the brass is burnished by hand, expect some gentle variation in tone from piece to piece, and be aware that screens can show brass colour differently to how it looks in person.

Burnished Brass and opal glass

Burnished Brass is hand finished, so the surface carries a warm, slightly antiqued glow rather than a uniform polished shine. It suits period bathrooms and hallways, or any space already furnished with brass hardware. The three shades are cased in white opal glass, spreading light evenly across each one rather than showing the bulb itself, while steel forms the wall plate and arms underneath the finish.

How it works

Each of the three arms takes a 3.5W LED G9 bulb, so you'll need three in total. Bulbs aren't included, so add them to your order. The light is dimmable when used with dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch. It's wired to Class I, which means it needs a proper earth connection. It mounts flush to the wall on a standard wall plate. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

With a genuine IP44 rating, this Ainsley wall light is suitable for bathroom zones 2 and outside zone, in keeping with our bathroom lighting zones and regulations guide. Its scale makes it a good match for larger bathrooms, or above a double vanity where more light is needed across a wider wall. Outside the bathroom, it also works well in hallways and landings furnished with warm metal fittings.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started out in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, launching with a catalogue of just fourteen products under founder Phil R. Hinkley. When Phil became ill in the mid 1930s, travelling salesman Stanley Wiedemer bought into the business, then took it over fully after Phil's death in 1937 and moved his own family to Cleveland to run it. The Wiedemers have kept the company in family hands ever since, with Stanley's grandson Rick Wiedemer Jr joining in 1969 for a career that spanned fifty years, and the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, stepping into leadership roles from around 2000. A design like this Ainsley, scaled up to its largest three light form, shows how far the range has grown from that original run of fourteen lanterns. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs for UK homes, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.

Is this wall light dimmable? Yes, this Ainsley wall light is dimmable when it's used with dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch. Standard bulbs that aren't designed for dimming won't dim on this fitting.
