Lit, it throws the same intricate, layered shadow pattern across ceilings and walls, only in a cleaner, cooler light that suits a wider range of interiors. At 34cm in diameter and 24cm tall, it works as a sculptural piece as much as a light source, sitting happily on a console, sideboard or bedside table.

The White Finish, Cut and Assembled by Hand

This lamp is built from corrugated cardboard around a gray powder coated steel frame. White cardboard behaves differently under a laser than the natural amber board used elsewhere in the range, so each layer of this finish is cut by hand rather than machine cut, then assembled by Graypants' craftspeople. The result is a bright, matte white shade with the same fine ridged texture as the rest of the collection, one that reads calm and architectural against pale walls, timber furniture or a plain plastered hallway.

How It Works

Tilt is a plug in table lamp, so it needs no wiring and no ceiling work. It comes fitted with a 2.5m black fabric cord and an inline switch, and takes a single standard E27 bulb up to 15W (not supplied). Choose a compatible dimmable LED bulb if you want to adjust the light level, since the fitting itself has no separate dimmer built in. It carries CE safety certification and a 2 year warranty from Graypants.

From a Cardboard Accident to a Design Studio

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights range that Tilt belongs to began almost by chance, when the pair used leftover cardboard to build a lighting prototype for a sustainable design competition and found the layered shadows it cast were worth pursuing in their own right. That original idea is still the basis for every Scraplights shade made today, this white finish included.
