The Ohio 24 is one of the smaller pendants in Graypants' Scraplights range, built from rings of corrugated cardboard wrapped around a glass diffuser at its core. In this white finish, the cardboard is knife cut rather than laser cut, giving each ring a cleaner, more graphic edge while still letting light escape softly through every layer. At 61cm in diameter, it sits at an intimate scale that suits a single room feature rather than a grand centrepiece.

Knife Cut White, Not Laser Cut

Graypants makes its natural finish Scraplights with a laser, but the white pieces are cut by hand with a blade. That knife cut edge reads crisper and more architectural than the natural version, and it lets the white cardboard diffuse light more evenly across the room. The glass diffuser sits at the centre of the shade, softening the bulbs' glow before it passes out through the cardboard rings and casts a gentle, lattice like shadow on nearby walls and ceiling. It pairs naturally with Scandinavian and Japandi interiors, and with any room built around pale, textural materials.

How It Works

Each shade is hand assembled from individually cut cardboard rings, bonded together with non-toxic adhesive around the central glass diffuser. It hangs on a white fabric cord from a round canopy, both finished in white to match the shade. The standard cord length is 2m, with a 5m cord available on request.

Graypants: From Seattle to a Sustainable Design Competition

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights range they became known for began almost by accident, when they built an early pendant out of leftover cardboard for a sustainable design competition. That original idea, cardboard rings layered around a light source, is still what every Scraplights pendant is built on today.
