It measures 61cm across and 24cm in height, cut from recycled corrugated cardboard in fine concentric rings and left in its natural, undyed finish. A glass diffuser sits at the centre, softening the light before it spreads across the layered card. The result is a fitting that reads as sculptural by day and casts a warm, amber glow with soft shadow patterning once it's lit.

Natural Finish, Left Undyed

This version keeps the cardboard's raw colour rather than staining or painting it, so the grain and small tonal variations in the recycled material stay visible. No two pieces are laser cut and stacked in exactly the same way, which gives each Ohio 24 a slightly individual character even within the same finish. The warm, papery tone pairs naturally with timber, linen and rattan, and works well against both pale walls and darker, more grounded colour schemes. Fittings are finished with a black powder coated steel canopy, so the ceiling fixing stays discreet against the cardboard body.

How It Works

The Ohio 24 is a hardwired ceiling pendant, supplied with a fabric flex and round canopy. It takes E27 LED bulbs of up to 15W each, and bulbs are not included, so you can choose the exact warmth and dimmability you want. If you'd like the light to dim, fit a dimmable LED bulb and use it with a compatible dimmer switch. The standard cord length is 2m, and a 5m cord is available on request if you need extra drop. As with any hardwired fitting, it should always be installed by a qualified electrician.

The Story Behind Scraplights

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection, which the Ohio 24 belongs to, began almost by accident: the pair entered a sustainable design competition using leftover cardboard packaging and found that light passing through the layered, laser cut rings produced a texture and warmth they hadn't set out to design. That original idea has since grown into the full Scraplights range, still built around the same reclaimed cardboard and the same handmade approach.
