A Woven Nest of Warm Cardboard Light

The Nest 24 is Graypants at its most compact and most textural. Its shade is built from strips of cardboard laser cut and hand assembled into a loose, woven lattice, so light does not just shine through it, it filters and scatters, throwing soft amber glow and a web of shadow across the walls and ceiling around it. At 24cm across, it is small enough to hang low over a side table or bedside without dominating the space, while still carrying the handmade, sculptural quality Graypants is known for.

The Natural Finish

In Natural, the cardboard is left in its raw, undyed state, so every piece shows the honeyed brown tone and visible grain of the material itself rather than a painted or dyed surface. It reads as warm and organic rather than rustic, and it pairs easily with timber furniture, linen and wool textiles, and other raw or matte materials. It suits Japandi, organic modern and boutique hotel style rooms particularly well, anywhere the brief calls for texture and warmth over polish and shine.

How It Works

• The shade is made from recycled corrugated cardboard, laser cut into strips and hand assembled into the finished nest form, then treated to be fire retardant.
• It takes one E27 LED bulb, 15W maximum, which is not included. Use a dimmable LED bulb with a compatible dimmer switch if you want the light to dim.
• The pendant hangs on a 2m black fabric cord from a small black powder coated canopy, 2.5cm high and 10cm across. A 5m cord is available on request, please enquire.
• This is a hardwired fitting, so it must be installed by a qualified electrician. It is designed for indoor, dry locations only.

The Nest 24's small scale makes it a natural fit for spots that need a single, characterful point of light rather than a big statement. Think either side of a bed as a pair, above a side table or console, over a small dining nook, or lighting a hallway or staircase landing. It works equally well as one fixture in a considered room or repeated in twos and threes for rhythm.

Graypants and the Scraplights Story

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection, which the Nest 24 belongs to, began almost by accident, when the pair used leftover cardboard packaging at a sustainable design competition and found it made a genuinely beautiful light source. That same idea, ordinary reclaimed cardboard turned into something considered and sculptural, still runs through every Nest shade made today.
