A Brighter, Sharper Version of the Moon

This is the White finish of Graypants' Moon table lamp, a 25cm sphere built from reclaimed corrugated cardboard. Where the darker Scraplights finishes are laser cut, White is knife cut, and it changes the character of the light. The pale surface and crisper edges push a brighter, more graphic glow into the room, with sharper rings of shadow than you get from the natural cardboard tones.

Each Moon lamp starts as reclaimed corrugated cardboard, cut by hand and assembled with non toxic adhesive, then finished with a non toxic fire retardant. The White finish is knife cut rather than laser cut, which leaves cleaner, crisper edges than the etched pattern on the darker Scraplights finishes. It sits well against pale walls, light timber and other contemporary or Japandi finishes, anywhere a lighter palette is preferred to raw cardboard tones.

How It Works

• Plugs straight into a standard socket, with a 2.5m black fabric cord and an inline switch on the cord.
• Takes a single E27 bulb, 15W LED maximum. The bulb is not supplied.
• Dimmable when fitted with a compatible dimmable LED bulb.
• No hardwiring needed. Simply place it, plug in and fit a bulb.

Where It Works Best

The White Moon sits comfortably on a sideboard, desk, console or nightstand. Its brighter, more defined glow suits contemporary and Japandi living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways, particularly where a lighter, brighter material palette is preferred over the raw cardboard tones of the standard Scraplights finishes.

Where Scraplights Began

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights range itself began almost by accident, when the pair entered a sustainable design competition and turned to leftover cardboard as their material. That original idea grew into the hand finished, reclaimed cardboard lighting the studio still makes today, out of its Pacific Northwest and Amsterdam workshops.
