The Moon 18 pendant in Blonde is the largest pendant in Graypants' Moon range, with a 45cm diameter shade, its stacked rings of cardboard rippling outward like a cratered moon caught mid orbit. Built from layered rings of reclaimed corrugated cardboard, laser cut and hand assembled, it throws a warm, filtered glow rather than a flat wash of light. Given its scale, it reads as a genuine centrepiece rather than a small accent.

Honeyed Blonde Cardboard, Ring by Ring

Blonde is Graypants' most natural cardboard tone, left close to the material's own honeyed colour rather than dyed or stained. Every ring is laser cut from reclaimed corrugated board, then hand assembled and bonded with a non-toxic adhesive before the whole shade is treated with a non-toxic fire retardant. Because the rings are built up by hand, no two Moon 18 shades are ever quite identical, and the tone can also read slightly differently from one screen to another. It suits light oak, linen, rattan and other natural, warm toned materials, and sits comfortably alongside brass or bronze fittings.

How It Works

The Moon 18 is a hardwired pendant, measuring 40cm in height and 45cm in diameter. It hangs on a 2m white fabric cord from a grey powder coated canopy, 2.5cm high and 10cm in diameter, and a 5m cord is available on request if you need extra drop, just ask us to enquire on your behalf. It takes a single E27 bulb, up to 15W LED, which is not supplied. Fit a dimmable LED with a compatible dimmer switch if you want to bring the light down for evenings. Once switched on, the layered cardboard filters the bulb's glow into a warm amber light and throws a soft lattice of shadow across ceilings and nearby walls. This pendant is CE certified and carries a 2 year warranty. Have a qualified electrician handle the install, since the drop height is set on site rather than pre fixed.

Where It Works Best

Given its scale, the Moon 18 works best somewhere with real ceiling height and space to let the shade breathe: a stairwell, an open plan living room, a wide hallway, or a hotel style entrance. It suits Scandinavian, Japandi and other pared back interiors where one strong sculptural shape can do the talking, and it works well over a dining table or as a single statement in a bedroom or living room, rather than clustered in twos or threes.

The Scraplights Story

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection, which the Moon 18 belongs to, began almost by accident, when the pair entered a sustainable design competition and turned to leftover cardboard as their material, discovering that layered, laser cut rings could filter light in a way few other materials do. That original idea is still what the Moon 18 is built from today, made across Graypants' studios in the Pacific Northwest and Amsterdam.
