A Compact Sphere in Crisp White

The Moon 10 is the smallest sphere in Graypants' Moon range, just 26cm in diameter, built from knife cut rings of cardboard hand assembled into a soft, round shade. In this White finish, the pendant reads clean and quiet rather than raw, so it suits contemporary interiors that want warmth from the shape of the light rather than the colour of the material. Its small scale makes it just as much at home lined up in a run of three or four along a hallway as it is hung alone.

A Pale, Contemporary Finish

Where Graypants' Blonde and Natural Scraplights lean into the honeyed, raw tone of the cardboard itself, this White finish is a cleaner, more pared back take on the same knife cut construction. Each ring is still knife cut and hand assembled, so the surface keeps its texture and the shade still glows unevenly as you move around it, but the overall look sits closer to plaster, linen and pale oak than to reclaimed packaging. It works well against white or pale walls, and pairs comfortably with matt black, brass or timber fittings nearby.

How It Works

The Moon 10 is a hardwired ceiling pendant, hung from a 2m white fabric cord with a small round canopy, 2.5cm high and 10cm in diameter in a grey powder coated finish. A 5m cord is available on request if you need extra drop. It takes a single E27 bulb, 15W maximum LED, which is not supplied, so you can choose the exact brightness yourself. Fit a dimmable LED bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch if you want to bring the glow down for evenings. As with any hardwired fitting, installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, who can also set the finished drop to suit your ceiling height.

Where It Works Best

Given its compact size, the Moon 10 suits spots where a larger pendant would feel like too much: a hallway or stairwell, grouped in a run of three or four, or as a single accent beside a bed. Cardboard Born From a Design Accident

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection the Moon 10 belongs to began almost by accident, when the pair entered a sustainable design competition and turned to leftover cardboard as their material, discovering that layered, knife cut rings could filter light in a way few other materials do. That original idea, hand assembled rather than mass produced, is still what every Moon shade is built from today.
