The Moon 10 is the most compact pendant in Graypants' Moon collection, a cratered, ring stacked shade brought down to just 26cm in diameter. Built from layered rings of corrugated cardboard, laser cut and hand assembled into concentric bands, it carries the same textured, moonlike silhouette as the rest of the range in a size built for tighter spaces and closer groupings. In Blonde, the shade takes on the cardboard's own warm, honeyed tone, so the light it throws feels soft and amber rather than bright and clinical.

Honeyed Rings, Stacked by Hand

Each ring is laser cut from corrugated cardboard and bonded by hand with a non-toxic adhesive, then treated with a non-toxic fire retardant for safe indoor use. The Blonde finish is the cardboard's own natural colour, so no two shades come out quite identical. Expect gentle variation in tone and shadow pattern from one Moon 10 to the next. It sits comfortably with light oak, rattan, linen and other warm, natural materials, and works well alongside brass or bronze fittings.

How It Works

The Moon 10 is hardwired to the ceiling, with a grey powder coated canopy measuring 2.5cm in height and 10cm in diameter, and a white fabric cord that runs 2m as standard (a 5m cord is available on request, please enquire). As a hardwired fitting, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, who will set the drop to suit your ceiling on site. It takes one E27 bulb, 15W maximum LED, which is not supplied. Fit a dimmable LED bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch if you want to bring the light down for evenings. With a standard, non dimmable bulb it will simply run at full brightness. Once lit, the layered rings filter the bulb's glow into a warm amber light and cast a soft, cratered shadow pattern across nearby ceilings and walls.

Where It Works Best

Because it is the smallest shade in the Moon range, the Moon 10 suits spots where a bigger pendant would feel like too much: beside a bed, in a hallway, or over a stairwell, or clustered in twos or threes above a kitchen island or dining table. The Story Behind Scraplights

The Scraplights collection, which the Moon 10 belongs to, began almost by accident. While competing in a sustainable design competition, Graypants co-founder Seth Grizzle started experimenting with leftover corrugated cardboard, and found that layered, laser cut rings could hold light beautifully and cast striking shadows. That discovery became the starting point for Scraplights. Graypants itself was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati, and the brand now makes its pieces across studios in the Pacific Northwest and Amsterdam. Every Moon 10 shade is still hand assembled from individual cardboard rings, so no two are ever quite identical.
