A Long Low Run of Warm Cardboard Light

The Hewn 48/8 Linear in Natural is Graypants' cardboard signature stretched into a single straight run rather than one round pendant. It measures 121cm long and 20cm high, so it reads as a proper linear fixture rather than a small accent light. A laser cut cardboard shell wraps a steel spine, and the Natural finish gives the surface a deep amber tone that filters the integrated LED into a soft, textured glow. Its Direct only optic sends all of that light downward, onto whatever it hangs over.

The Natural Finish

Natural is Graypants' warmer cardboard tone, deeper and more amber than the lighter Blonde option. Every panel is laser cut from recycled corrugated cardboard, then hand assembled layer by layer over the steel frame, so the surface keeps a visible ridge pattern rather than a flat finish. It suits spaces built around timber, brass or other warm materials, and reads as sculptural in a way a plain metal shade doesn't.

How It Works

The Hewn 48/8 is a hardwired ceiling pendant fitted with a 23W integrated LED rated at 3000 lumens and a warm 3000K colour temperature. It's mains dimmable, so it can be brought down for a quieter evening setting or run at full output over a workspace. Light is Direct only, meaning it all travels downward rather than washing the ceiling above it. It hangs on a 2m black fabric cord from a black powder coated canopy measuring 16cm across and 3.5cm high. A 5m cord is available on request for taller ceilings, so ask before ordering if you need it.

Its horizontal shape suits a dining table, a kitchen island or a run of desks in a home office, anywhere a single round pendant would look too small or too centred. Cardboard With a Backstory

Graypants' Scraplights line began almost by accident, with the studio's first cardboard shade said to have been built from leftover material at a sustainable design competition. Graypants itself was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati, and the cardboard technique from that first experiment is still what the Scraplights collection is built from today.
