The Lowest Profile in the Hewn Linear Family

This is the 48/4 version of Graypants' Hewn Linear pendant, the shortest and most low slung profile the range comes in. At 121cm long and just 11cm high, it reads as a slim strip of light rather than a fixture, made to hang low and long over a surface: a kitchen island, a run of workbench, or a long dining table. It gives direct light only, aimed straight down with no upward wash, so it stays as quiet task lighting rather than a source of ambient glow.

Knife Cut, Hand Assembled, Finished in White

The shade is made from recycled corrugated cardboard, knife cut rather than laser cut, the technique Graypants uses specifically for its white finish. Each shade is cut by hand and hand assembled, then coated in a crisp, matt white that reads as clean and architectural rather than raw or industrial. It suits pared back Scandinavian kitchens and contemporary dining spaces particularly well, sitting comfortably alongside white oak, painted cabinetry or exposed steel.

How It Works

The pendant runs on an integrated LED, dims easily, and is supplied ready to hardwire in as a ceiling fitting.

• Integrated 23W LED, producing around 3000 lm of warm white light at 3000K.
• Mains dimmable, so it works with a standard dimmer already on the circuit.
• Direct light only on this profile: light is aimed down at the surface below, with no light escaping upward through the shade.
• Hardwired ceiling pendant, hung on a 2m white fabric cord from a 16cm diameter, 3.5cm high canopy finished in white powder coat. A 5m cord is available, please enquire.
• CE certified, with a 2 year warranty.

Where It Works Best

Its long, low profile and downward only light make it best suited to spaces where you want light on a surface rather than in the room: over a kitchen island or breakfast bar, along a run of open shelving, above a home office desk, or centred over a dining table where you want the table lit without glare bouncing off the ceiling. Because there is no uplight, it also suits rooms with lower ceilings, where a wider glow would feel overpowering.

How Scraplights Began

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights range itself began almost by accident, born from leftover cardboard at a sustainable design competition, and grew into the knife cut and laser cut shades the studio still hand makes today.
