A Focused Beam in Pale Cardboard

The Hewn 48/4 pendant throws light only downward, with no soft glow bouncing off the ceiling above it, just a warm pool of light on whatever sits beneath. In Graypants' pale Blonde finish, the laser cut cardboard lattice scatters a web of shadows across the surface below while the shade itself stays a soft, sandy cream. It measures 121cm long and 11cm high, making it the lowest profile option in the whole Hewn Linear family, built to run the length of a table or island rather than hang as a single point of light.

The Blonde Finish

Each shade is cut from recycled corrugated cardboard and hand assembled in Graypants' Blonde finish, the cardboard's natural pale tone left as it is rather than stained or painted. The laser cut lattice pattern runs the full length of the shade in one continuous strip, so it reads as a single band of light rather than four separate lamps. Every shade is cut and folded by hand, so expect small natural variations in the cardboard grain from one piece to the next. The pale tone sits well against warm timber, brass fittings and light walls, and reads noticeably softer and more casual than Graypants' darker Roest or char toned finishes.

How It Works

• Runs on a 23W integrated LED rated at 3000K, giving a warm white light output of around 3000 lumens.
• Mains dimmable when paired with a compatible dimmer switch.
• Direct light only. The LED shines down through the cardboard lattice rather than glowing outward, so it will not wash the ceiling or upper walls.
• Hardwired to the mains via a 2m white fabric cord and a 16cm diameter, 3.5cm high white powder coated canopy. A 5m cord is available on request, please enquire.
• Arrives complete with its integrated LED, cord and canopy, ready for a qualified electrician to install.
• Hand assembled using a non toxic adhesive and treated with a non toxic fire retardant.

Because the light is directional, this is the pendant to choose where you want a clear pool of light rather than an ambient glow, running the length of a kitchen island, a dining table, or a reception desk or hotel corridor. Its low 11cm height also suits rooms with lower ceilings, where a deeper pendant would hang too close for comfort.

Graypants and the Scraplights Story

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection is said to have started almost by accident, born out of leftover cardboard at a sustainable design competition, and grew from there into the laser cut lattice shades the brand is now known for.
