A Full Length Band of Direct Light

The Hewn 48 is the largest pendant in Graypants' Hewn Linear range, and it is built to prove it. This fixture measures 121cm long by 30cm tall and weighs 4.5kg, so it behaves more like a piece of architecture than a single light fitting. In this Natural finish, the corrugated cardboard shade keeps its raw, sun bleached colour, held inside an exposed steel frame that sends its glow straight down in one even band.

Raw Cardboard, Left Honest

Graypants builds every Scraplight from layers of recycled corrugated cardboard, and the Natural finish is the most honest version of that material. Nothing is stained or painted over, so you see the ridged edges and papery grain of the cardboard itself, warmed once the light passes through it. The exposed steel frame around the shade adds a bit of structure and contrast against the softer cardboard. It suits kitchens, dining rooms and studies where timber, steel and plaster are already doing the talking, and pairs comfortably with Scandinavian, Japandi and industrial interiors.

How It Works

The shade wraps a single integrated LED light engine, so there is no separate bulb to source or replace.

• Light source: 23W integrated LED, rated at 3000 lumens with a warm 3000K colour temperature.
• Dimming: Mains dimmable, so it can be brought down for evening use with a compatible dimmer switch.
• Fitting: Hardwired to the ceiling on a black fabric cord, supplied at 2m as standard (5m is available, please ask).
• Installation: As a hardwired fitting, it should be connected by a qualified electrician.

Graypants, Seattle to Amsterdam

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection began almost by accident, when the pair used leftover cardboard to enter a sustainable design competition and found the material had a warmth and texture worth developing properly. That original idea has grown into the layered cardboard lighting Graypants is now known for, made across studios in the Pacific Northwest and Amsterdam.
