A Dual Circuit Take on the Tallest Hewn Linear

This is the Dual Circuit version of Graypants' biggest Hewn Linear pendant, and it earns its place at the top of the range with a genuinely large silhouette: 121cm long and 30cm tall, with a 10cm deep shade. Rather than running the downlight and uplight from one circuit, it splits them onto two separate circuits so each can be dimmed on its own. In the pale Blonde finish, the laser cut cardboard lattice reads fine and linear, letting more light spill through in soft, even lines than the darker finishes in the range.

The shade is corrugated cardboard, laser cut into Graypants' fine linear lattice and hand assembled rather than machine pressed. Left in its naturally pale Blonde tone, it isn't stained or bleached, so the true, light colour of the cardboard shows through. As with any natural material, tone can vary slightly from piece to piece, and it looks different lit at night, warm and glowing, than in daylight, more paper like and textural. The white fabric cord and white powder coated canopy continue that pale palette, and the finish pairs well with light timber, white walls and plaster, and other soft, neutral interiors rather than dark or heavily grained rooms.

How It Works

Inside the shade, an integrated LED engine rated at 23 to 46W runs two independent circuits, one for the downlight and one for the uplight, each putting out 3000 lm at a warm 3000K colour temperature. Because the two directions sit on separate circuits, a two gang dimmer switch is needed to dim the downlight and uplight independently rather than together. The fixture is hardwired, hanging on a 2m white fabric cord (a 5m cord is available on request) from a white powder coated canopy measuring 3.5cm high by 16cm in diameter. It carries CE safety certification and a 2 year warranty. As with any hardwired fitting, installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician.

The Story Behind Scraplights

Graypants' Scraplights collection began almost by accident. Entering a sustainable design competition, the team built a light from leftover cardboard, and the shape it took on became the starting point for the whole Scraplights range. Graypants itself was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati, and the company has designed from studios in Seattle and Amsterdam since.
