The Ebey table lamp turns a laser cut lattice of cardboard into a glowing sculptural object for a side table, desk or shelf. In Natural, the finish stays closest to Graypants' original idea: undyed, reclaimed corrugated cardboard, left in its own honest tone rather than dressed up with dye or coating. At 24cm across and 34cm tall, it's sized for a single surface rather than a whole room, throwing an intricate shadow pattern across whatever wall sits nearby.

The Natural Finish

This is cardboard as it comes: undyed and uncoated, so every ridge and cut edge of the lattice stays visible. The tone is warm and slightly variable from board to board, the way reclaimed material always is. It sits comfortably with raw wood, linen, stone and other natural textures, working as a quiet accent in a minimal room or a textural contrast in a busier one.

The Ebey is a plug-in table lamp, not a hardwired fixture, so it moves freely from room to room. It comes with a 2.5m black fabric cord and an inline switch, and takes a single E27 bulb up to 15W maximum (LED recommended, not supplied), so you choose the exact warmth and brightness yourself. Fitted with a compatible dimmable bulb, the lamp dims; the cardboard lattice filters whatever light passes through it into a soft, textured glow.

From Packaging Waste to Considered Light

Graypants' Scraplights collection began as an accident, when leftover cardboard packaging at a sustainable design competition turned into a lighting prototype instead of landfill. Graypants itself was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Ebey carries that same idea through: material that would otherwise be waste, laser cut and hand assembled into something considered.

• What bulb does the Ebey table lamp need? It takes a single E27 bulb up to 15W maximum. The bulb is not supplied, so you can choose an LED in the warmth and brightness you prefer.
