A Warm Glow Cast Through Reclaimed Cardboard

The Graypants Scraplights Drum 18 turns laser cut rings of reclaimed corrugated cardboard into a pendant light with real texture and warmth. This is the Natural finish at 45cm diameter, the most compact size in the Drum family, a small scale piece that still fills a room with a soft amber glow once it is switched on.

Natural Kraft Cardboard, Left As It Is

Every Drum 18 starts as sheets of recycled corrugated cardboard, laser cut into rings and hand assembled into the drum shape you see. In this Natural finish, the cardboard keeps its raw kraft brown tone rather than being painted or dyed, so the ridges and edges of the corrugation stay visible on the surface. Each piece is bonded with a non-toxic adhesive and treated with a non-toxic fire retardant. A small glass diffuser sits inside the shade, and a black powder coated canopy finishes the fitting at the ceiling. It suits warm, textural interiors and pairs naturally with timber furniture, woven textiles, and other honest, unfussy materials.

How It Works

• Takes 3 x E27 LED bulbs, each up to 15W maximum. Bulbs are not included.
• Works with a compatible dimmable LED bulb if you want to control the light level.
• An internal glass diffuser softens and evens the glow beneath the shade rather than leaving the bulbs exposed.
• Hardwires directly to the ceiling on a 2m black fabric cord with a round, black powder coated canopy. A 5m cord is available, please enquire.
• This is a hardwired fitting and must be installed by a qualified electrician, who will also set the finished drop length for you.

Where It Works Best

At 45cm diameter, the Drum 18 suits spots where a larger Drum size would feel too dominant: above a bedside table, in a reading nook, over a small dining table, or grouped in twos and threes along a hallway or staircase. It also works well as a single statement piece in a living room or bedroom, or repeated for rhythm along a run of ceiling.

Graypants, Born From Scrap

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection that the Drum 18 belongs to began almost by accident, when leftover cardboard from a sustainable design competition became the material for the studio's first cardboard light.

• Due to the nature of this product, this item is strictly non-returnable. Please enquire if you wish to see the fittings or receive a swatch sample.
• Wipe with a dry, soft cloth only. Avoid water or damp cleaning, as the cardboard shade is not designed to get wet.
• Comes with a 2m black fabric cord as standard, cut to your required drop by your electrician at install. A 5m cord is available, please enquire.
• Carries a 2 year warranty and CE safety certification.
