The Disc 24 is Graypants at its most sculptural: a wide, lens shaped pendant built from hundreds of hand cut cardboard rings, stacked and glued into a smooth oval silhouette. This is the White finish, and at 61cm in diameter and 26cm tall, it is the largest size in the Disc range, a genuinely big fixture rather than a subtle accent. Switched on, warm light filters through the layered card and throws the collection's signature ridged shadow pattern across the ceiling and walls around it.

The White Finish, Up Close

Underneath the White coating, the shade is built the same way every Disc is: reclaimed corrugated cardboard, knife cut into rings and hand assembled with a non-toxic, fire retardant adhesive. The white finish softens the raw cardboard tone into something paler and more muted, so the ridged texture reads as a subtle pattern rather than announcing itself as cardboard from across the room. It suits pared back interiors, and pairs well with black metal furniture, pale timber, or a plain white wall where the fixture itself becomes the main event.

How It Works

The Disc 24 hangs as a hardwired ceiling pendant. It comes with a white fabric cord, 2m as standard, with a 5m option available on request, and a small white powder coated round canopy, 10cm in diameter, that sits flush against the ceiling. The drop length is set on site at the time of installation.

Cardboard, By Accident

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection, which the Disc belongs to, began almost by accident: at a sustainable design competition, the pair found themselves working with leftover cardboard and discovered how well it diffused light once it was cut and layered. That original idea has since grown into the full Scraplights range.
