A Softly Rounded Shade in Warm Honey Tones

The Denny Pendant is one of the signature rounded shapes in Graypants' Scraplights collection, and this 34cm version comes in Blonde, the cardboard's own warm, honeyed colour. Built from layered rings of corrugated cardboard, laser cut and hand assembled into a soft, bulbous profile, it has a gentler silhouette than the more angular Scraplights shapes. Switched on, it filters bulb light into an amber glow and throws fine, shifting shadow patterns across ceilings and walls nearby.

Blonde Cardboard, Left in Its Natural Tone

Blonde is Graypants' undyed, unstained cardboard colour, so what you see is the material's own warm honey and caramel shading rather than an applied finish. Every ring is laser cut from reclaimed corrugated cardboard, then hand assembled and bonded with a non-toxic adhesive before the whole shade is treated with a non-toxic fire retardant. Because assembly happens by hand, no two Denny shades are ever quite identical, and the tone can also read slightly differently from screen to screen, so ask Moonlight for a swatch if you want to check the exact colour first. It sits well alongside light oak, rattan and linen, and pairs comfortably with brass or bronze fittings.

How It Works

The Denny shade measures 63cm in height and 34cm in diameter, hung on a 2m white fabric cord with a small round canopy at the ceiling, 2.5cm high and 10cm in diameter, finished in white powder coating (a 5m cord is available, just ask us to enquire on your behalf). It takes a single E27 bulb, up to 15W LED, which is not supplied. Fit a dimmable LED with a compatible dimmer switch if you want to bring the glow down for evenings, a standard, non dimmable bulb will simply run at full brightness. This is a hardwired fitting, so it should be installed by a qualified electrician, who will also set the final drop on site.

The Scraplights Story

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection began almost by accident, when the pair entered a sustainable design competition and turned to leftover cardboard as their material, discovering that layered, laser cut rings could filter light in a way few other materials do. That original idea, born out of a student design competition, is still exactly what the Denny is built from today.
