The Ausi 14 in Blonde is the largest pendant in Graypants' Ausi range, at 39cm across. It is built from layered rings of corrugated cardboard, laser cut and hand assembled into a faceted, sculptural dome. The Blonde finish is the cardboard's own warm, honeyed colour, so once lit it glows amber and throws intricate shadow patterns across ceilings and walls.

Honeyed Layers, Faceted by Hand

Each ring is laser cut from corrugated cardboard, then hand assembled and bonded with non-toxic adhesive before the whole shade is treated with a non-toxic fire retardant. In Blonde, that construction shows through as warm honey and caramel tones with visible layering, rather than a flat, uniform surface. It sits comfortably alongside light oak, rattan, linen and other natural, warm toned materials, and pairs well with brass or bronze fittings nearby.

How It Works

The Ausi 14 is hardwired to the ceiling, with a grey powder coated canopy measuring 2.5cm in height and 10cm in diameter, and a white fabric cord that runs 2m as standard (a 5m cord is available on enquiry). The drop itself is set on site by your electrician at installation. It takes one E27 bulb, 15W maximum LED, which is not supplied. Fit a dimmable LED bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch if you want to bring the light down for evenings; a standard, non dimmable bulb will simply run at full brightness. It carries CE safety certification and a 2 year warranty.

The Scraplights Story

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection, which the Ausi 14 belongs to, began almost by accident, when the pair entered a sustainable design competition and started experimenting with leftover corrugated cardboard, discovering that layered, laser cut rings of it could hold light beautifully and cast striking shadows. Every Ausi 14 shade is still hand assembled from individual cardboard rings today, so no two are ever quite identical.
