A Steel Drum in Cool Zinc Grey

The Roest 75h Pendant in Zinc is a drum shaped ceiling light with a weathered steel surface, but in a cooler, silvered grey rather than the warm rust brown most people picture when they hear the Roest name. It hangs low and lets the finish do the talking, so it suits interiors built around concrete, glass and pale timber just as easily as it suits a warmer, more industrial room.

The Zinc Finish

This variant is made from zinc coated steel rather than bare steel left to rust. The coating develops its own soft, oxidised patina over time, so the surface reads as textured and slightly uneven under close inspection rather than flat or uniform. Because the finish is a natural process rather than a printed pattern, expect gentle variation from piece to piece. It pairs well with black metal, matt worktops and other cool toned materials, and reads more understated than Roest's rust finishes when the light is off.

How It Works

The pendant is hardwired and suspended on a black fabric cord from a black powder coated ceiling canopy, so it needs to be connected to your mains supply. A 14.4W integrated LED is built in, giving a warm 2700K light, so there is no separate bulb to source or replace. It is Triac dimmable, meaning it will work with a compatible dimmer switch if you want to adjust the level of light. As with any hardwired fitting, it should be fitted by a qualified electrician.

Hung on its own or in a small cluster, it suits a kitchen island, a dining table or a desk in a home office, anywhere you want a single contained pool of light with a piece of sculptural steel above it. Its cooler grey tone makes it a good fit for kitchens and workspaces built around concrete, steel or pale wood, where a warmer rust finish might feel too heavy.

The Roest collection was developed by Graypants with the Dutch design studio VanJoost, led by designer Joost van Veldhuizen. Each piece is handmade in the Netherlands, and the steel is sealed only once its oxidisation has reached the right tone, so no two pendants are ever quite identical.

• Comes with a 2m black fabric cord as standard. A 5m cord is available, please enquire when ordering.

• Does this pendant come with a bulb? Yes. It has a 14.4W integrated LED built in, so there is no separate bulb to buy or replace.
• Is it dimmable? Yes, it is Triac dimmable, so it works with a compatible dimmer switch. It is not dimmable on a standard, non dimmer circuit.
• Will every Zinc pendant look exactly the same? No. The zinc finish oxidises naturally and is sealed once it reaches the right tone, so slight variation between pieces is normal and part of the material, not a defect.
• Can I install this myself? No. It is a hardwired fitting and needs to be connected by a qualified electrician.
