Graypants Roest 75h Pendant - Rust

A Slender Streak of Rusted Steel

Roest is the Dutch word for rust, and this pendant lets real, naturally oxidised steel do the talking. The 75h is one of the slimmer sizes in Graypants' Roest range, a tall, narrow steel cylinder rather than a wide drum, about 6cm across but stretching 75cm in length, so the rusted surface reads as one long, textured streak of colour overhead rather than a broad shade. In the Rust finish, that oxidisation is left to run its course before being sealed, fixing the mottled, weathered surface in place for good.

The Rust Finish

Every Roest piece starts life as plain steel, left to oxidise naturally until it reaches the depth of colour Graypants is after, then sealed so it stops rusting any further. That process cannot be fully controlled, so the mottling, colour variation and texture on your pendant will be its own, not identical to the next one off the line. It reads as raw and industrial up close, but the warm rust tones keep it from feeling cold, which is why it pairs easily with timber, brass and stone in Scandinavian, Japandi or boutique hotel style rooms that want a bit of texture without losing warmth.

How It Works

The 75h is fitted with a 14.4W integrated LED, so there is no separate bulb to buy or replace, running at a warm 2700K colour temperature. It is Triac dimmable, so it will dim smoothly once wired through a compatible Triac dimmer switch. The pendant hangs on a 2m black fabric cord from a small black powder coated ceiling canopy, 10cm across and 2.5cm deep, with a 5m cord available if you ask us. As a hardwired fitting, it needs connecting to your mains supply by a qualified electrician, who can also set the drop to suit your ceiling height. It carries CE certification and a 2 year warranty.

Where It Works Best

Its narrow profile makes it easy to place singly or in a small cluster, over a kitchen island, above a dining table, or beside a desk in a home office. Because the light itself is warm and contained rather than broad and even, it works best as a feature piece marking a spot, a run of counter, the head of a table, a reading corner, rather than as the sole source of light in a large room.

Roest, Developed with VanJoost

The Roest collection was developed by Graypants with Dutch design studio VanJoost, led by designer Joost van Veldhuizen, and is hand made in the Netherlands. Each piece is left to oxidise naturally and only sealed once the rust reaches the right tone, so no two pieces are ever quite identical.

• Will my Roest 75h pendant look exactly like the photos? Close, but not identical. The rust finish comes from a natural oxidisation process before sealing, so the exact mottling and tone on your pendant will vary slightly from the next, and from what you see on screen.
• Can I dim this light? Yes. The integrated 14.4W LED is Triac dimmable, so it will dim smoothly once wired through a compatible Triac dimmer switch.
