A Tall Narrow Column of Rusted Steel

The Roest 45v takes the same naturally oxidised steel as the rest of the Roest collection and turns it on its end. Instead of the wide drum shape used elsewhere in the range, this is a tall, narrow cylinder that throws a tight, focused pool of light straight down rather than spreading it wide. In the Rust finish, the surface carries the deep, mottled orange brown of steel left to weather naturally before being sealed, so the texture reads as raw and handmade rather than manufactured.

The Rust Finish

Rust is the collection's signature finish: steel left to oxidise until the colour and texture reach the right depth, then sealed so the rust stops developing. Because the process is natural rather than applied, the mottling and tone vary slightly from piece to piece, so no two 45v pendants look quite identical. It sits well against blackened metal, reclaimed timber, exposed brick and other raw, tactile materials, and reads as warm rather than cold next to pale walls or plaster.

How It Works

• The main steel cylinder measures 45cm in height by 6cm in diameter, suspended from a black powder coated ceiling canopy measuring 2.5cm in height by 10cm in diameter.
• It hangs on a 2m black fabric cord as standard, with an adjustable drop so you can set the finished height when it is installed. A 5m cord is available on request, please enquire.
• It takes one GU10 LED bulb, up to 10W maximum. The bulb is not supplied.
• It works with a compatible dimmer switch, so the light level can be adjusted to suit the room.
• This is a hardwired pendant, so it must always be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Its narrow profile and downward throw make it better suited to a focused pool of light than a broad wash, so it works well above a console table, a reading chair, a narrow dining table or a kitchen island where you want light directed at a surface rather than filling the whole room. It also suits anyone furnishing in an industrial or pared back style, where the texture of the rust finish can sit as a feature in its own right.

The Roest collection was developed by Graypants with the Dutch design studio VanJoost, led by designer Joost van Veldhuizen. Each piece is handmade in the Netherlands, with the steel left to oxidise naturally and only sealed once the rust has reached the right tone. Because the process cannot be exactly repeated, no two pieces come out quite identical.

• Because of its handmade rust finish, this item is strictly non-returnable. If you would like to see the fittings in person or receive a swatch first, please get in touch with us and we can arrange this.
• The rust finish is sealed, but it is still a natural finish, so wipe it down with a dry cloth rather than water or cleaning products.

Questions People Ask

• Is a bulb included? No. The Roest 45v takes one GU10 LED bulb, up to 10W maximum, which is not supplied.
• Can it be dimmed? Yes. It works with a compatible dimmer switch, so you can lower the light level to suit the room.
• Does this need an electrician to fit? Yes. This is a hardwired pendant and should always be installed by a qualified electrician.
• Will my pendant look exactly like the photos? Not exactly. The rust finish develops naturally on each piece, so the tone and mottling vary slightly from one pendant to the next, and screens can render the colour slightly differently too.
• Can I get a longer cord? Yes. It comes with a 2m black fabric cord as standard, and a 5m cord is available on request. Please enquire with us before ordering.
