A Vertical Cylinder Shaped by Rust

The Roest 30v is a slim, vertical steel cylinder pendant, one of the mid sized options in Graypants' Roest range. This Rust version lets the steel's natural oxidised colour and texture show through fully, so the surface reads as mottled, warm toned metal rather than a painted or powder coated finish. Because that rust process is never quite the same twice, no two 30v pendants in this finish look perfectly identical.

Naturally Oxidised Steel, Left Rust

The body is steel that has been left outdoors to rust properly, then sealed once the colour and texture reach the right depth, so the corrosion process stops there rather than continuing further. The result is an uneven, textured surface with genuine variation in tone across the cylinder, closer to reclaimed metalwork than a manufactured finish. It suits pairing with black ironmongery, exposed brick, timber or concrete, and works well in industrial, rustic or otherwise textured interiors.

How It Works

The 30v is a hardwired ceiling pendant, suspended on a 2m black fabric cord from a black powder coated canopy measuring 2.5cm in height and 10cm in diameter (a 5m cord is available, please ask us to enquire on your behalf). It takes a single GU10 LED bulb, 10W maximum, which is not supplied. Choose a dimmable GU10 LED bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch if you want to bring the light down for evenings. As a hardwired fitting, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Its mid sized scale makes the 30v easy to place as a single pendant over a small dining table, breakfast bar or reading nook, or hung in a pair either side of a sofa or bed for symmetry. The textured rust finish suits kitchens, dining rooms and living spaces built around natural or industrial materials, wherever a single characterful pendant can do the talking rather than a row of downlights.

The Roest collection was developed by Graypants with Dutch design studio VanJoost, led by designer Joost van Veldhuizen. Each piece is hand finished in the Netherlands from steel that is left to oxidise naturally and then sealed once it reaches the right tone. Because that process is never quite the same twice, no two Roest fittings are ever perfectly identical.

• Is the Roest 30v pendant dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable GU10 LED bulb and use it with a compatible dimmer switch.
• Does it come with a bulb? No. It takes one GU10 LED bulb, 10W maximum, which is not supplied.
• Will my Rust pendant look exactly like the photo? Close, but not identical. The steel is left to rust naturally before being sealed, so small variation in tone and texture between pieces is normal and part of the finish.
• Can I return this pendant if it does not suit my space? No, it is non-returnable due to the nature of the product. Please enquire if you would like to see the fittings or receive a swatch sample before ordering.
