A Slender Cylinder of Rusted Steel

The Roest 15v is the smallest vertical cylinder in Graypants' Roest range, a pocket sized pendant built for pairs and small clusters rather than standing alone. In this Rust finish, the steel carries a genuine, naturally oxidised surface, sealed once it reaches the right depth of colour so it holds that tone rather than continuing to weather. Hung in twos, threes or more at staggered heights, several 15v pendants create a run of small warm pools of light and a repeated rhythm of rusted texture overhead.

Rust: Naturally Oxidised, Individually Sealed

This Rust version starts life as plain steel, left to oxidise naturally rather than treated with a stain or dye, then sealed once the colour reaches the tone Graypants is after. Because that process depends on how the metal weathers, no two 15v pendants are ever perfectly identical, small variation in tone and mottling is part of the finish rather than a flaw. It reads as warm, textured and slightly industrial, and pairs well with black ironmongery, timber, concrete and other raw, honest materials.

How It Works

The 15v is a hardwired ceiling pendant, suspended on a black fabric cord from a black powder coated canopy. It takes a single GU10 LED bulb, 10W maximum, which is not supplied, so you can choose the exact brightness and colour temperature yourself. Fit a dimmable GU10 LED bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch if you would like to bring the light down for evenings, with a standard bulb it will run at full brightness. As a hardwired fitting, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Its small scale makes the 15v suited to spots where a single large pendant would overwhelm the room: over a kitchen island, along a bar counter, or in a cluster above a dining table. It also works well as a pair either side of a bed, or dotted along a run of open shelving where a small, warm pool of light is enough.

Handmade in the Netherlands with VanJoost

The Roest collection was developed by Graypants with Dutch design studio VanJoost, led by designer Joost van Veldhuizen. Each piece is hand finished in the Netherlands from steel that is left to oxidise naturally and then sealed once it reaches the right tone, which is why no two Roest fittings are ever perfectly identical.
