A Single Line of Light

The Levity Bow160 pendant is a bar of blackened steel that runs a full 160cm across the ceiling, the longer of the two lengths in Graypants' Levity Bow family. Instead of a shade or a socket, the fitting is one continuous line, hung level on slim black cords so it reads more like a piece of architectural trim than a conventional light. In matte black, it disappears into a dark ceiling by day and becomes a clean bar of light by night.

Matte Black Steel, Kept Deliberately Plain

This version is finished in matte black powder coated steel, chosen so the fitting has no shine to catch the eye and compete with the line itself. The surface is flat and even rather than textured, which keeps the bar reading as one graphic stroke rather than a fussy object. It sits comfortably against black window frames, dark painted ceilings, walnut or blackened oak furniture, and matte black or brushed brass hardware elsewhere in the room.

How It Works

The light comes from an 18W LED built directly into the bar rather than a separate replaceable bulb, putting out around 1750 lumens in a warm 3000K white. It is mains dimmable, so the same fitting can run bright for cooking or reading and low for evening dinners. The pendant hangs from a 2m black fabric cord and ceiling canopy, and because it is one long, rigid bar, professional installation is recommended to get it level. It carries CE safety certification and a 2 year warranty.

Graypants: A Seattle Design Studio

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. That architectural training shows in the Levity collection's stripped back, linear approach to lighting.
