A Scalloped Brass Backplate With A Cotswold Green Zigzag Shade

The Anvil Angle wall light takes a plain idea, a square arm coming straight out from the wall, and dresses it with a decorative cast backplate and a 16cm tapered shade in Cotswold green. The result is an antique brass wall light with a soft, country house feel, lifted by the sage green and off white zigzag print on the shade.

Cast Steel In A Brass Patina With A Faux Silk Shade

The wall back is hand crafted from solid cast steel, shaped with rounded lobes and held by four visible screws, then finished in a brass patina. The patina is matt and gently mottled, closer to old brass than to a polished finish. The arm is steel in the same finish and turns up at a right angle to an authentic brass B22 lamp holder.

The shade is handmade, with gathered pleats on a tapered frame, cut from faux silk that has been digitally printed with a Cotswold green zigzag. The top and bottom edges are taped, and the inside has a plain lining so the light comes through as a warm glow rather than a glare. Lit, the greens turn golden where the bulb sits behind them. Unlit, the pattern reads as crisp sage and white.

How It Works

This is a hardwired wall light rated Class I. It takes one B22 bayonet LED bulb of up to 7W, which is not included, and it is dimmable when fitted with a dimmable LED bulb and used with a compatible dimmer switch. It arrives as two boxes, the brass wall fitting and the shade, and the shade simply sits over the lamp holder once the fitting is on the wall.

The fitting is 24cm high, 16cm wide and projects 19.5cm from the wall, so it is compact enough for a bedside or a narrow landing.
