Cast like something forged, not pressed

The Rectory Swirl has a rough, hand cast texture that catches the eye before you even notice the single candle arm curling out from its diamond shaped backplate. A double scroll carries the arm up to a ruffled iron pan holding one E14 candle lamp in a cream sleeve, and the whole fitting reads as something forged rather than machine pressed.

Black finish

It's cast in wrought iron and finished in matte black, with a rope edged border and a leaf pattern worked into the corners of the backplate. The surface keeps a slightly grainy, sand cast feel rather than a smooth painted one, which is what gives it a period, hand forged character rather than a modern reproduction look.

How It Works

One E14 lamp sits in the candle style holder on top of the scrolled arm, sitting in a cream candle sleeve under a ruffled iron pan. Fit a dimmable E14 bulb and the fitting will work with a dimmer switch; a standard bulb won't dim even on a dimmer circuit. Wiring is Class I, so it needs an earthed connection, and we recommend a qualified electrician handles installation.

Where It Works Best

Its ironwork and candle profile suit hallways, staircases and dining rooms where a period or country house look is wanted, whether that's a pair flanking a doorway, either side of a fireplace, or a run of two or three along a dark hallway wall.

Rectory Swirl comes from Elstead Lighting, a British lighting group whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which is still led by the Lucas family today.
