A Glass Jar Full of Light

Morvah does away with a shade in the usual sense. Instead a tall cylinder of bubbled glass sits over the bulb like an old fashioned storage jar, letting every seed and imperfection in the glass catch and scatter the light rather than hiding it. Mounted on a single slim arm and a round backplate, it throws a soft, broken glow across the wall instead of one hard beam.

Here the arm, lamp holder and backplate are all painted in a clean matte white, a quieter option than the polished chrome or nickel versions in the same range. Against a white bathroom suite or a painted wall it all but disappears, leaving the bubbled glass and the bulb inside it to do the visual work.

How It Works

Morvah takes a single E27 bulb, held on show inside the glass rather than concealed, so a decorative filament style bulb will do most of the styling here. It is wired directly into the mains and rated Class I. The arm can be positioned facing up or down depending on how the light falls on the wall, and fitted with a dimmable bulb, it will dim in step with the rest of the room.

Where It Works Best

With an IP44 rating, Morvah is built to withstand the steam and splashes of a bathroom, so it earns its keep either side of a mirror or above a basin.
