A steady light for the way home

The Kerry pillar lantern puts a traditional four sided lamp head on a slim post, so the glow sits at knee to waist height rather than up on a wall. Bevelled glazing on all four sides lets the light spread out in every direction, which is exactly what you want marking a driveway edge, a run of steps or the corner of a border.

Finish

Kerry is finished in black only, cast from a tough polymer rather than metal, with clear polycarbonate glazing standing in for real glass. That combination is what lets it stand outside all year without pitting, rusting or clouding the way a cheaper metal and glass fitting can. The lamp head keeps the traditional coach lantern silhouette, with a turned finial on top and bevelled edges on the roof panels.

How it works

One E27 lamp holder sits behind the glazing, designed for an LED bulb which is not included. The fitting is wired for Class II use, so there is no earth connection to worry about. Fit a dimmable bulb and it will dim on a compatible switch; fit a standard one and it will not, the fitting itself does not limit you either way. At 116cm tall on a 25.5cm square base, it is sized to sit comfortably beside a path or gate rather than tower over it.

Where it works best

Kerry is IP44 rated and built with exposed, weather beaten spots in mind, so it earns its keep on coastal drives, seafront paths and anywhere the wind gets under your collar. It also works well in a straightforward front garden, lighting the last stretch to the door or standing in pairs either side of a gateway. There is a matching Kerry wall lantern if you want the same detailing carried up onto the house itself, so the pillar by the gate and the light by the door can read as one set.
