A single sphere of light

The Dryden Round pairs a plain opal glass globe with a slender polished chrome column, a shape that has changed very little since the classic bathroom sconces it takes its cue from. It reads as one soft point of light rather than a fixture with a shade, which is part of why it works so well beside a mirror.

Polished chrome finish

The column is cast in aluminium and finished in polished chrome, so it holds a bright, cool shine rather than the warmer glow of brass or nickel. The stem tapers from a ribbed chrome collar at the neck of the globe down to a pointed foot, with a compact oval backplate at the wall end that keeps the fixing neat.

How It Works

A single G9 LED bulb sits behind the opal glass, so the whole globe lights up evenly instead of throwing a hard filament shadow when you're standing close to a mirror. The bulb isn't included, and because this fitting wires directly into the wall rather than plugging in, we'd always recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation. Fit a dimmable G9 LED and it will work on a dimmer circuit, a standard non dimmable bulb won't.

Where It Works Best

Its compact backplate and slim profile make it an easy fit either side of a bathroom mirror or above a basin, and it works just as well as a single fitting in a cloakroom or small ensuite. Elstead is a British lighting group whose roots go back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and the business remains led by the Lucas family today. Its bathroom range favours classic, decorative shapes like this globe and column rather than anything overtly modern, which is part of why the Dryden design has stayed largely unchanged in the range.
