A slender column of light

A single tube of opal glass, standing tall and slim on the wall, gives a calmer, more architectural line than a rounder shade would manage. The Dryden Cylindrical is one of the more restrained members of the Dryden family, suited to spaces where a straight vertical shape works better than a curve.

Polished chrome finish

Chrome rings finish the glass at both top and bottom, and the tapering stem beneath is finely fluted, catching the light as it narrows to a pointed base. A small oval backplate keeps the wall fixing neat and unobtrusive, and the whole fitting is polished to a full mirror shine rather than a brushed or satin look.

How it works

The single G9 bulb sits inside the opal tube, so the glow runs evenly along its whole length rather than concentrating in one bright patch. That makes it comfortable to use close up at a mirror, without the harsh hot spot a bare bulb or a clear shade can give. Elstead specifies a 3W LED G9 for this fitting, which is not supplied, and it will accept a dimmable bulb if you want to control the level.

Where it works best

Fitted in pairs either side of a mirror, or on its own above a basin, it holds its own in bathrooms and cloakrooms with a traditional or transitional feel, as well as narrow hallway or landing spots that suit a slim vertical fitting.
