A period torch light for the bathroom wall
Carroll takes the classic torchiere shape, a trumpet of ribbed glass sitting above a slender reeded column, and finishes it in polished nickel. It is the kind of fitting you would expect to find either side of the mirror in a Victorian or Edwardian bathroom, though it works equally well as a single accent in a smaller cloakroom.
The polished nickel finish
Polished nickel has a softer, slightly warmer cast than chrome while still reading as a bright, reflective metal, and it holds that shine without the coolness of chrome under bathroom lighting. The same fine reeding runs down the column and across the layered wall rose, so the detailing ties together even close up.
How it works
A curved arm carries the shade away from the wall rose to a single G9 lamp holder, with the fluted glass shade fitting over a nickel gallery ring at the top of the column. It takes one G9 bulb, a 3W LED is specified but not supplied, and the fitting is wired to Class I standard, so it needs an earth connection.
Where it works best
Fitted in a pair either side of a mirror, Carroll throws light evenly across a face rather than down from overhead, which is the more comfortable way to light a bathroom for shaving or applying make up. A single fitting also works well in a cloakroom or over a smaller vanity.
