A watchful glow by the door

Cast in aluminium and finished in weathered bronze, the Baltimore Half Lantern has the silhouette of an old carriage light: tapering glass sides, a crown of scrollwork and curling feet beneath. The flat back sits close against the wall, so it reads as a full lantern from the path without eating into a porch or passageway.

Amber glass, weathered bronze

Amber tinted glass panels warm the light and soften the view of the fitting when it's off, while the bronze casting shows soft copper highlights across its scrollwork and ridges where the finish has been rubbed back. This half lantern comes in the one weathered bronze finish, sized to sit comfortably over a door or beside a gate rather than dominate a larger wall.

How It Works

Wall mounted with a single E27 lamp holder set behind the glass, the fitting throws a pool of warm light downward and out rather than up into windows or bedrooms above. It takes one E27 LED lamp, which isn't included, and responds to a dimmer switch if a dimmable bulb is fitted. As it's wired directly into the wall, we recommend a qualified electrician installs it.

Where It Works Best

Look to it for front doors, side passages and porches, anywhere a period lantern would have hung, and anywhere a bit of weather resistant light matters after dark. Rated IP44, it's built to cope with rain and damp air outdoors, though it isn't intended for bathrooms or other wet rooms indoors.

The Baltimore Half Lantern comes from Elstead, a British decorative lighting group and distributor whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which remains led by the Lucas family today. It sits within Elstead's wider Baltimore collection, alongside pedestal and post lanterns in the same weathered bronze finish, so fittings around a house or gateway can be kept in step with one another.

Is the Baltimore Half Lantern suitable for outdoor use? Yes. It's rated IP44 and cast in aluminium specifically for exterior use, so it copes well with rain and damp air by a front door or gate.

Does it come with a bulb? No. It takes one E27 LED lamp, which isn't supplied, so you'll need to fit your own before installing it.

Can this lantern be used with a dimmer switch? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. A non dimmable bulb won't respond to a dimmer even on a dimmer circuit.
