A taller take on a storm lantern

The Austen Tall stretches the classic storm lantern glass upward, trading the shallower shade of the standard Austen Single for one that's taller and more sculptural on the wall. The bulb sits low inside the clear glass rather than tucked out of sight, so the fitting throws a warm, flickering looking glow that reads more like a candle in a hurricane lamp than a modern wall light.

Polished chrome and clear glass

This version comes in polished chrome, a bright, mirror finish plating that runs across the circular backplate, the curved arm and the ribbed collar beneath the shade. The glass itself is left completely plain and clear rather than frosted or fluted, so nothing competes with the chrome for attention and the bulb stays visible through the glass. The same tall shape is also made in polished nickel, for a softer, warmer metal tone.

How It Works

A single G9 bulb sits on a short candle style stem low in the glass, held by one lamp holder. Elstead specifies a 3W LED G9 for this fitting, though the bulb itself isn't included, so you'll need to source one before fitting it. It's wired directly into the mains and built to Class I, meaning it needs to be earthed, so we'd always recommend a qualified electrician handles the install.

Where It Works Best

Its height suits spots where a shorter wall light would look a little lost, either side of a tall bathroom mirror, in a room with higher ceilings, or anywhere you want a single fitting to hold its own rather than blend in.
