A Step Light That Does Two Jobs at Once
The WL339 recesses flush into a wall base or straight into the ground beside a step, and instead of firing all its output straight down, it uses an asymmetric lens to send part of the beam out horizontally too. That means one small fitting marks the edge of the tread and throws useful light across the path ahead, rather than needing a separate light for each job. It's built to take direct foot traffic, so it can sit exactly where people walk rather than being kept out of the way.
This Stainless Steel Cast Finish
This version is cast rather than machined, so the stainless steel has a slightly rough, granular surface instead of a mirror polish, giving it a more rugged, less obviously "lit" look in daylight. Collingwood also offers the WL339 in a smoother brushed stainless steel for a cleaner finish, so the cast option is the one to pick if you want the fitting to blend into stone, brick or render rather than stand out. Underneath that texture it's the same marine grade 316 stainless steel body with a 5mm toughened glass lens, so nothing is given up on durability to get the rougher finish.
How It Works
A 2.6W LED sits behind the toughened glass lens, running at 3000K warm white and putting out around 50 lumens according to Collingwood's own published figures. The lens is asymmetric, splitting the beam across roughly 50 degrees so light spreads sideways as well as down. The driver is built into the fitting, so this is a straight to mains light with parallel wiring, meaning several units can be run from the same circuit without daisy chaining live and neutral through each one. It's supplied with a run of rubberised cable and an installation tube, which holds the body in the correct position while it's set into wet render, blockwork or the ground, before the surrounding surface is finished around it.
Where It Works Best
With an IP65 rating and a marine grade stainless steel body, this is a fitting for exterior steps, garden paths, driveway edges and decking, including coastal or otherwise exposed spots where a lesser material would corrode. It also suits sunken or half buried mounting into a wall base rather than sitting proud of a surface. Its IP65 rating also covers bathroom zone 2, so it can be used beside a step down into a wet room or sunken bath area if that's where you need it. Our guide to bathroom lighting zones explains what that rating means in practice.

Questions People Ask
What makes the WL339 different from a standard step light?
Its lens is asymmetric, so instead of only lighting the ground directly beneath the fitting, it throws part of the beam out across the step or path as well.
Can this stainless steel cast version be walked on?
Yes, this cast finish WL339 is walk over rated and built from marine grade 316 stainless steel, so it can be recessed flush into a step or ground surface that takes regular foot traffic.
Does it come with everything needed to fit it?
It's supplied with a length of rubberised cable and an installation tube that holds the body in place while it's set into wet render, brickwork or the ground, ready for the surrounding surface to be finished around it.
What colour temperature is this listing?
This particular WL339 stainless steel cast listing runs a 3000K warm white LED producing around 50 lumens.
Is the WL339 suitable for a coastal garden?
Yes, its IP65 rating and marine grade 316 stainless steel body are designed to resist salt air and exposure, making it a suitable choice for coastal paths and steps.
