A Compact Stainless Steel Spotlight for Exposed Walls
The WL220 is Collingwood's cylindrical, single lens wall light, built around one point source LED rather than a row of small diodes. That single lens design keeps the beam tight and the fitting small, so it reads more like a miniature spotlight fixed to the wall than a traditional lantern. It wires straight to the mains with no separate driver box to find room for, and the head tilts and swivels so you can aim the beam exactly where you want it.
This Version: 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel
This listing is the 316 grade stainless steel version, a higher spec alloy than the 304 stainless used on many outdoor fittings, with better resistance to pitting and corrosion where salt air is a factor. The photos show a brushed, satin finish rather than a mirror polish, so it reflects light softly and won't show fingerprints the way a polished chrome fitting would. It suits contemporary render, brick or stone facades, and pairs naturally with other stainless steel or brushed metal hardware such as door furniture and house numbers.
How It Works
Each WL220 in this listing runs a 5.7W integrated LED at your choice of 2700K, 3000K or 4000K, sold as separate colour temperature options rather than a switchable fitting. Collingwood's own photometric data puts output at 515 lumens for the 2700K version, 520 lumens for 3000K and 538 lumens for 4000K, all through a 40 degree beam, giving an efficacy of roughly 90 to 94 lumens per watt. The driver is sealed inside the housing, so an electrician makes one mains connection and there's nothing extra to wire in separately. The head tilts through 90 degrees and rotates a full 360 degrees, letting you angle the beam down a wall, across brickwork, or towards a path or doorway after it's fixed in place. It's wired for parallel connection and built to Class I standard, so it needs an earth connection as part of the installation.
Where It Works Best
Its size and directional beam make it a good fit for front entrances, porch surrounds, garden walls and boundary lighting, anywhere you want a defined pool or wash of light rather than broad, even coverage. Being IP65 rated, it's built to handle open, exposed positions including coastal properties where salt laden air degrades weaker finishes faster. That same IP65 rating also means it's robust enough for wet zones indoors; if you're considering it near a shower or bath, our guide to bathroom lighting zones explains where a fitting like this can go.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and builds its LED lighting from its base in Sywell, Northamptonshire, and has worked solely with LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products into the UK electrical wholesale market, helping shift trade buyers away from halogen. Collingwood also holds an EcoVadis Gold medal, putting it in the top 5 percent of companies assessed globally for sustainability.
Good to Know
- 7 year guarantee from Collingwood.
- IP65 rated, meaning it's fully dust protected and shielded against low pressure water jets from any direction, suitable for exposed exterior walls.
- Class I electrical construction, so the installation must include a proper earth connection.
- This fitting is not dimmable. Each colour temperature is sold as a fixed output version.
- Wiring is parallel type, which your electrician will need to know when planning the circuit.
- Built from 316 grade stainless steel. Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or wire wool, which can mark the surface.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
Does the Collingwood WL220 stainless steel wall light need a separate driver?
No. The driver is built into the fitting itself, so it connects straight to the mains supply with no external driver or transformer to install.
Can the WL220 head be repositioned after it's fitted to the wall?
Yes. The head tilts through 90 degrees and rotates a full 360 degrees, so the beam can be redirected at any point after installation without moving the wall plate.
Is the WL220 dimmable?
No. This fitting runs at a fixed output, and Collingwood does not list a dimmable version of the WL220 in stainless steel.
Is the stainless steel WL220 suitable for a house near the coast?
Yes. It's built from 316 grade stainless steel, a marine grade alloy chosen specifically for its resistance to salt air and coastal corrosion.
What beam angle does the WL220 produce?
It produces a 40 degree beam, giving a defined, directional spread of light rather than broad, even illumination.
