A Compact Spot for Straight to Mains Outdoor Lighting
The WL220 is a small, cylindrical wall light built to run straight off the mains supply, with no separate driver or transformer to find room for. It reads as a single tidy spot rather than a bulky fitting, which is why it turns up so often on entrances, garden walls and steps where a discreet outdoor wall light is needed rather than a statement piece.
This Black, Anodised Aluminium Finish
This version is finished in black anodised aluminium, a hard wearing coating that resists fading and corrosion outdoors far better than paint. Against render, brick or dark cladding it more or less disappears into the background during the day, which suits anyone who wants the light thrown rather than the fitting itself noticed. It is sold here with a choice of 2700K, 3000K or 4000K lamp colour, so the same black body can be set up to run warm or cool depending on the rest of the exterior lighting scheme.
How It Works
Because the driver is built into the fitting, installation is a straightforward mains connection rather than a two part job with a hidden driver box. The head tilts 90 degrees vertically and rotates on its base, so once it is fixed to the wall you can angle the 40 degree beam up a wall, down towards a path, or somewhere between the two. Wiring is parallel, meaning several WL220 fittings can be looped from one circuit rather than each needing its own run back to the switch. It measures 80mm in diameter by 145mm deep and weighs around 0.5kg, light enough for most standard exterior wall fixings. With an IP65 rating it is sealed against dust and protected against low pressure water jets, so it copes with driving rain as well as everyday damp. That level of protection also means it is robust enough for use in bathrooms, see our guide to bathroom lighting zones for where it can go.
Where It Works Best
Black suits spots where you want the light doing the work and the fitting staying quiet, so it is a natural fit either side of a front door, along a garden wall, up a run of steps or on an outbuilding. Because it is straight to mains and wired in parallel, it also works well anywhere you are lighting a run of several points, such as a boundary wall or a path, from a single switched circuit.

Questions People Ask
Does the WL220 need a separate driver box?
No. The driver is integral to the fitting, so it connects straight to the mains supply without a separate driver or transformer to install elsewhere.
Can several WL220 wall lights be wired together on one circuit?
Yes. It uses parallel wiring, so multiple fittings can be looped from a single circuit instead of each one needing its own dedicated feed back to the switch.
What colour temperature and light output does the black WL220 give?
It is available in 2700K, 3000K or 4000K, producing between roughly 515 and 530 lumens from 5.7W depending on which colour temperature is chosen.
Is the black WL220 dimmable?
No. This version of the WL220 does not have a dimming function and operates at a fixed light output once switched on.
How far can the head be angled once the WL220 is fitted?
The head tilts 90 degrees vertically and rotates on its base after installation, letting the 40 degree beam be pointed up a wall, down towards a path or steps, or anywhere in between.
