A Compact, High Output LED Wall Light for the Outside of Your Home
The WL075 SPS is a small but powerful black outdoor wall light built for anyone who wants strong illumination without a bulky fitting on the wall. Instead of a separate lamp and driver, the whole thing wires straight to the mains, so there is nothing extra to source or hide away. At 5.7W it still throws out a genuinely useful amount of light for its size, which is why Collingwood markets it as a high output design.
Anodised Aluminium in Black
This version is finished in a deep, glossy black anodised aluminium, with a small two part cylindrical body, a slim collar in the middle, and a single round lens on the face where the light emerges. Anodising is an electrochemical process rather than a painted coating, so the colour is worked into the metal itself and will not chip or peel the way paint can. Against pale render, white walls or light stonework it reads as a crisp, modern accent. It also sits comfortably next to darker brick or charcoal cladding, where it almost disappears into the background during the day and only announces itself once the LED is switched on.
How It Works
Inside the fitting is a single integrated LED and lens, wired for parallel connection so an electrician can run several WL075 fittings off the same circuit without complicated daisy chaining. There is no separate driver to fit anywhere else, no transformer box to conceal in a loft or cupboard, and no plug in lamp to fail over time, because the LED is built into the fitting for its whole working life. It connects directly to a 220 to 240V mains supply and comes complete with all the fixings needed to mount it. The trade off for that simplicity is that the colour temperature is fixed at the point of manufacture, so it is worth deciding between the 2700K warm white, 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral white version before you buy, since it cannot be changed once installed.
Where It Works Best
This is an outdoor fitting through and through, at home beside a front door, along a garden wall, flanking a garage, or spaced along a run of patio doors. Because it is rated to IP65, it copes with driving rain and does not need a porch or canopy overhead to stay protected. Collingwood also rates it as suitable for coastal locations, so it holds up well on properties exposed to salt laden sea air where cheaper fittings corrode. With an IP65 rating it also meets the requirements for bathroom zone 2, so it can be used inside a bathroom as well as outside. You can read more about what that means for your own bathroom in Moonlight Design's guide to bathroom lighting zones.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and builds its LED fittings from its own site in Sywell, Northamptonshire, and has focused purely on LED lighting technology since 2002. The brand states it was among the first to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products into the UK electrical wholesale trade, helping push mains voltage LED fittings into the mainstream. Collingwood has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, which places it in the top five percent of companies worldwide assessed for sustainability performance.
Good to Know
- Backed by a 7 year warranty from Collingwood, with an LED lifetime rated to 70,000 hours.
- IP65 rated, so it is protected against low pressure water jets from any direction and suitable for both outdoor use and bathroom zone 2.
- Class I electrical rating, which means the metal body must be properly earthed. Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
- The integrated LED is not dimmable and cannot be swapped, so choose your colour temperature, 2700K, 3000K or 4000K, before ordering.
- Wires straight to the mains with no separate driver, using parallel wiring so multiple fittings can share a circuit.
- Rated by Collingwood as suitable for coastal environments, thanks to the anodised aluminium body.
- Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners on the anodised finish.
Questions People Ask
Can the WL075 SPS be dimmed?
No. The WL075 SPS has a fixed output LED and is not compatible with dimmer switches.
Does the WL075 SPS need a separate driver or transformer?
No. The driver is built into the fitting and it connects straight to a standard 220 to 240V mains supply.
Is the WL075 SPS suitable for a bathroom?
Yes. Its IP65 rating meets the requirement for bathroom zone 2, making it suitable for use in bathrooms as well as outdoors.
Can I fit the WL075 SPS near the coast?
Yes. Collingwood rates this fitting as suitable for coastal locations, and its anodised aluminium body is designed to resist the effects of salt laden air.
Can I change the colour temperature after installation?
No. The LED colour temperature is fixed at manufacture, so the 2700K, 3000K or 4000K version must be chosen at the time of purchase.
