A Slim Up and Down Light With the Driver Built In
The WL070 SPS is a compact wall light that throws light both upward and downward from a single fitting, ideal for marking a doorway, pillar or gatepost without extra clutter on the wall. Because the driver sits inside the body, this is a straight to mains fitting, so there is no separate driver box to hide or provision to remember.
Aluminium Silver Finish
This version comes in an aluminium silver finish over an anodised aluminium body, with an hourglass profile that pulls in tight at the middle and flares out around each lens at top and bottom. The satin metallic surface reads as understated rather than shiny, so it settles well against render, brick, natural stone or powder coated metalwork without drawing attention to itself in daylight.
How It Works
Behind each lens sits a single integrated LED, run at 5.1W and producing 510 lumens at 2700K, 550 lumens at 3000K or 560 lumens at 4000K, roughly 100 to 110 lumens per watt depending on which colour temperature you choose. A tight 12 degree beam keeps the light column narrow and controlled on the wall rather than washing it broadly. The colour rendering index sits above 80, so surfaces and brickwork keep their true colour under the light. Because the LED is fixed rather than replaceable, you choose 2700K warm white, 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral white at the point of ordering rather than swapping it later. Wiring is a straight to mains connection with the driver built in, and where several WL070 fittings run off the same circuit, Collingwood specifies parallel wiring between them.
Where It Works Best
This is an outdoor fitting first, at home either side of a front door, along a run of garden pillars, on gateposts or flanking a garage or porch opening. The IP65 rating means it is built for permanent outdoor exposure, and Collingwood notes a coastal protected specification, so it holds up in more exposed or salt affected locations too. Because it is rated IP65, well above the IP44 minimum, it is also suitable for bathroom use. See our guide to bathroom lighting zones for which zone it can go in.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and builds its LED fittings from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has focused solely on LED technology since 2002. The brand states it was among the first in the UK electrical wholesale market to bring out fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products, though this particular fitting has a fixed, non dimmable output. Collingwood also holds an EcoVadis Gold medal, putting it in the top 5% of companies assessed worldwide for sustainability.
Good to Know
- Covered by a 7 year warranty from Collingwood.
- IP65 rated, sealed against dust and low pressure water jets from any direction, so it is built for permanent outdoor use and also suitable for bathrooms.
- Straight to mains wiring with the driver built in, no separate driver unit to install.
- LED colour temperature is fixed at 2700K, 3000K or 4000K depending on the variant chosen, and the fitting is not dimmable.
- When wiring more than one WL070 fitting on a circuit, use parallel wiring between fittings.
- Clean with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive or solvent based cleaners on the anodised aluminium finish.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
- Can the WL070 SPS be dimmed? No. This fitting has a fixed LED output with no dimming function, so it runs at full brightness whenever it is switched on.
- Does it need a separate LED driver? No. The driver is built into the fitting itself, so it connects straight to the mains supply with nothing extra to wire in.
- Can I change the colour temperature after it is installed? No. The LED is fixed rather than replaceable, so the colour temperature, 2700K, 3000K or 4000K, is set by which variant you buy and cannot be changed afterwards.
- Is this light suitable for coastal locations? Yes. Collingwood specifies a coastal protected build for the WL070 range alongside its IP65 rating, making it suitable for more exposed sites near the coast.
- Can several of these be wired together on one circuit? Yes. Collingwood specifies parallel wiring when linking multiple WL070 fittings on the same circuit.
