An hourglass profile that throws light up and down from one point
The WL070 SPS is built around a waisted, hourglass shaped body, with a single point source LED hidden inside sending light out through both the top and the bottom of the fitting at once. Rather than hiding a lamp behind a shade, Collingwood has made the optic part of the shape itself, so what you see on the wall is two clean columns of light, one climbing and one falling, from a single compact fixture.
Finished in gloss black anodised aluminium
This version is anodised aluminium finished in a deep gloss black, the waisted curve catching a crisp highlight down its centre in daylight and settling to a flat, glossy black after dark. Anodising bonds the colour into the surface of the metal rather than sitting on top as paint, which is part of why it holds its finish outdoors. It reads well against pale render, brick or timber cladding, and works naturally alongside black door furniture, black window frames or anthracite guttering if you're matching hardware around an entrance. The fitting itself is compact, roughly 120mm long and about 80mm across the circular back plate, projecting around 130mm off the wall.
How It Works
A single point source LED sends light out through a lens at both the top and bottom of the body, rather than relying on two separate lamps, which is why the up and down beams match each other in colour and intensity. It runs at 5.1W through a narrow 12 degree beam, with the colour temperature fixed at the point of ordering between 2700K warm white, 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral white. It wires straight to the mains with no separate driver to find space for, and the circuit is wired in parallel, so several units can be run together along a wall without the last fitting in the run losing brightness. It is not a dimmable product. Because it connects directly to the mains supply, Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where It Works Best
The up and down beams need a bit of wall height to read properly, so this light does its best work either side of a front door, flanking a garage, run along brick or render pillars, or spaced along a full height boundary wall. On a low wall the two beams can end up meeting in the middle and losing their separate lines, so it suits gateposts, columns and taller elevations more than low garden walling. It's IP65 rated, which covers it for driving rain and exposed coastal walls as well as sheltered porches, and that same rating means it's also suitable for use in bathroom zones 1 and 2. For guidance on which bathroom zone allows which fitting, see Moonlight's guide to bathroom lighting zones.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and builds its LED fittings from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has focused solely on LED technology since 2002 rather than adapting older lamp based ranges. Collingwood says it was among the first manufacturers to bring fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products into the UK electrical wholesale market, though this particular fitting is a fixed output design rather than a dimmable one. The brand has also been awarded an EcoVadis Gold medal, placing it in the top five percent of companies assessed globally for sustainability.

Questions People Ask
Can the Collingwood WL070 SPS be used outdoors?
Yes, it carries an IP65 rating, so it can be fitted on an exposed exterior wall, pillar or gatepost in any weather.
Does the WL070 SPS need a separate driver?
No, it wires straight to the mains supply, so there is no separate driver unit to find space for during installation.
Is the WL070 SPS dimmable?
No, this fitting runs at a single fixed output and is not designed to work with a dimmer switch.
What colour temperatures does the WL070 SPS come in?
It is available in 2700K warm white, 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral white, each with a 12 degree beam angle.
Can the LED in the WL070 SPS be replaced if it fails?
No, the LED is integrated into the fitting rather than a separate lamp, and Collingwood rates it for a 70,000 hour lifetime before output declines.
