The part that makes a cut run look like one run
Neon strip is easy to cut and much harder to put back together neatly. That is the whole job of this Collingwood strip to strip connector. It takes the cut end of one length of LSNS side bend neon LED strip and the cut end of another, holds them square inside a single clear sleeve, and carries the current across the gap so the line of light reads as continuous rather than stopping at an obvious break. Product code LSNS1217SS.
Clear polycarbonate with steel contacts inside
The sleeve is moulded polycarbonate and it is deliberately transparent, which is the point. On a strip that often sits in a shallow channel, along a stair nosing or around a bulkhead, an opaque black joint would be the first thing your eye lands on. This one stays quiet. Inside the sleeve are transparent steel contacts on a small carrier that meets the conductors at the cut face of the strip, and the sleeve is sized around the 12mm wide LSNS side bend profile rather than being a generic fit that gets forced on. Small silicone inserts pack out the ends so the strip sits tight in the housing.
How It Works
The connection is mechanical, not soldered. The strip is cut on one of its marked cut points, the end is squared off, and it slides into the sleeve until the steel contacts sit against the strip's conductors. The second length goes in the opposite end the same way, with the polarity kept the same on both sides. Once both ends are seated and the housing is closed, the contacts hold the join and the clear body protects it. Because the assembly relies on a clean square cut and a fully seated strip, it pays to dry fit both ends before the run is fixed in place. Fit the connector while the run is still loose and you can check the join lights correctly along its whole length before anything is committed to a channel.
Where It Works Best
This is an installer's part rather than a decorative one. It earns its place anywhere a single reel will not cover the run in one piece: a long cove that needs two lengths joined, a stair or handrail detail carried around a return, a kitchen plinth or shelf run made up from offcuts, or a repair where a damaged section has been cut out and the two good halves need rejoining. It is also useful where a run has to pass a structural break and you would rather have a discreet inline joint than a visible cable loop. The IP65 rating means the body is sealed against dust and protected against water jets from any direction, so a joint made with it can sit in a bathroom installation, provided the fitting and its zone are checked against the bathroom lighting zones.
About Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood designs and manufactures its LED products in Sywell, Northamptonshire, and has worked in LED technology and nothing else since 2002. The brand states that it was among the first to put fire rated, fully sealed for life and mains dimmable LED products in front of the UK electrical wholesale trade. It also holds an EcoVadis Gold medal, which places it in the top 5% of the companies assessed worldwide for sustainability. That focus shows in the accessories as much as the fittings, where parts like this one are engineered around one specific strip profile instead of being sold as a universal fix.
Good to Know
- Two year warranty.
- Rated IP65, meaning the housing is fully protected against dust and against low pressure water jets from any direction.
- Rated IK08, an impact rating that covers knocks of the kind a joint might take during a fit out or in a trafficked area.
- Body is polycarbonate with transparent steel contacts.
- Made for the Collingwood LSNS side bend neon profile. It is not a universal LED tape connector and should not be forced onto another brand's strip.
- The LSNS strip itself carries a higher IP67 rating than this connector, so treat the joint as the IP65 point in the run and site it accordingly.
- Supplied on a non returnable basis, so check the strip type and the number of joints you need before ordering.
- Keep the clear body clean with a dry cloth. Do not use solvents on polycarbonate, as they can craze the surface.
- Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Questions People Ask
What does the Collingwood LSNS1217SS connector actually do?
The Collingwood LSNS1217SS is a strip to strip connector that joins two cut lengths of LSNS side bend neon LED strip end to end inside one clear housing, so a run made from more than one piece of strip works and reads as a single continuous line of light.
Which Collingwood strip does this connector fit?
This connector is made for the Collingwood LSNS side bend neon LED strip, which has a 12mm wide profile. Collingwood's LSNT top bend neon strip is a different profile and uses its own separate range of connectors.
What does the IP65 rating on this connector mean in practice?
IP65 means the connector housing is completely sealed against dust and protected against jets of water from any direction. It is suitable for damp and washdown conditions but is not rated for continuous immersion in water.
Does joining neon strip with this connector require soldering?
No soldering is involved. The Collingwood strip to strip connector makes its electrical connection mechanically, using transparent steel contacts inside the polycarbonate housing that meet the conductors at the squared off cut end of the strip.
What warranty does this connector carry, and can it be returned?
The Collingwood LSNS1217SS strip to strip connector is covered by a two year warranty. It is supplied as a non returnable item, so the strip profile and the quantity should be confirmed before the order is placed.
