An Up and Down Wall Light Built for the Outside
The LUXI 290 throws a column of light both above and below where it's fixed, rather than a single beam pointing one way. That double spread works well on an exterior wall, where you often want to soften the wall itself as much as light the ground in front of it. It's a straightforward cylindrical fitting with no fuss, built to do one job well.
Cast Aluminium in Anthracite
This version comes in a cast aluminium body finished in anthracite, a dark grey that reads as almost black without going fully flat. It sits quietly against render, brick or timber cladding, and the cast construction gives it enough weight and rigidity to stand up to being fixed outside permanently.
How It Works
A 24W integral LED sits inside the fitting, putting out 1170 lumens split between the upward and downward apertures. It runs at a fixed 3000K warm white and a 65 degree beam angle, wide enough to wash a reasonable stretch of wall rather than a tight spot. There's no dimming built in, so once it's wired in it runs at one steady brightness, and Collingwood rates the LED for a 50,000 hour lifespan before any real drop in output.
Where It Works Best
With an IP54 rating, the LUXI 290 is built to handle rain and splashing rather than being fully submersible, so it's best fixed under an eave, on a covered porch, or somewhere it isn't facing straight into driving rain. That makes it a good fit for entrances, garden walls, pillars either side of a gate, and courtyard or balcony walls where you want a consistent line of light rather than isolated pools. The same IP54 rating also covers splash prone indoor zones, so it can work in a bathroom too, provided it's sited outside the zones that call for a higher rating. See our guide to bathroom lighting zones if you're not sure which zone applies.
Collingwood Lighting
Collingwood Lighting designs and manufactures its LED fittings from Sywell in Northamptonshire, and has specialised in LED technology since 2002. The brand says it was among the first to bring fully sealed, weatherproof LED products to the UK electrical wholesale market, an approach that shows up directly in the sealed, IP54 build of the LUXI 290. Collingwood has also been awarded a Gold medal by EcoVadis, placing it in the top 5% of companies assessed globally for sustainability.

Questions People Ask
Does this light shine both up and down at the same time?
Yes. The LUXI 290 has separate apertures top and bottom, and both run from the same 24W LED at once, giving a continuous column of light rather than a single beam.
Can I dim this fitting?
No. It runs at a fixed output with no dimming function built in.
Is IP54 enough for a fully exposed wall?
IP54 protects against splashing water from any direction, but not a direct jet or submersion, so it's best sited under an eave or overhang rather than facing straight into heavy weather.
What does the 50,000 hour LED lifespan actually mean?
It's Collingwood's estimate for how long the integral LED runs before its light output drops significantly, rather than a fixed point at which it stops working.
Can the bulb be replaced if it fails?
No. The LED is integral to the fitting, so the whole unit is designed as a sealed light source rather than one with a separately replaceable bulb.
