A Full Circle of Individual Light Points

The Skybell Circle S/30L is a large scale pendant built as a single black ring, 5000mm across, with 30 individual light points hanging from it at four different drop lengths. Rather than one bright source, the light comes from a scatter of small points around the circle, so the fitting reads more like an architectural gesture than a conventional chandelier.

Down Lighting or Up and Down Lighting

Choose Down Lighting and all 30 points send their light downward, giving a focused wash over the space directly beneath the ring. Choose Up and Down Lighting and each point throws light both up and down, so the ceiling above picks up a glow as well as the room below, useful in spaces with a lot of visible ceiling height.

How It Works

The 30 light points hang at four drop lengths, five at 75cm, ten at 65cm, ten at 55cm and five at 45cm, so the ring reads as a loose scatter rather than a rigid grid. In Down Lighting form the fixture draws 96W and produces 11160 lumens; the Up and Down version adds a further 80.2W and 8640 lumens for the upward element. The light is warm, at 2700K with a CRI of 90, and the whole fixture is dimmable. The ring itself is suspended on multiple thin cables spaced around its circumference, with an overall drop of 3800mm, and it's built from iron and aluminium.

Where It Works Best

Its scale suits generously proportioned spaces with real ceiling height, entrance halls, staircases and dining rooms where a single fitting needs to anchor the whole room rather than just light a table. It reads as a piece of architecture in its own right, so it works best somewhere with enough space around it to be seen in full.

Bover began in Barcelona in 1996, when Joana Bover turned a sketch drawn for an architect friend's project into the brand's first piece. It's still designed and produced in Spain, based in Cardedeu near Barcelona, and known for two very different strands of work, hand woven outdoor pieces in synthetic fibre, and intricate wood lattice indoor fixtures like the Dome family, built from over 170 individually woven strips of beech. Running through both is a Mediterranean design sensibility, and since 2012 the brand has also had a US subsidiary in Atlanta.
