A Cascading Composition Inspired by Mei

Siam borrows its inverted shade shape from the Mei family and scales it right up. A single shade spans two metres across, sitting close to the ceiling on a short stem, and light spills gently downward and outward through its pleated surface rather than firing a single hard beam. At this XL size, it works as a centrepiece for the room on its own, or grouped with other Siam shades, overlapping them for a cloud like mural across the ceiling.

Two Shade Tones, Two Structure Sizes

Every Siam 200 XL pairs a satin nickel structure with a pleated shade in either white or cream. White keeps the light crisp and neutral as it filters through, while cream gives it a warmer, softer cast. The structure comes in two sizes too, Small with a 94mm profile or Big with a deeper 370mm profile, which changes how far it projects below the ceiling.

How It Works

Light comes from up to eight E27 LED bulbs (15W max each, not included) set behind the pleated shade, so the glow spreads evenly across the full two metre span rather than from one point. There's no dedicated dimming driver built in, so it only dims if you fit dimmable bulbs. A single Siam 200 XL works well as a standalone fixture, and because the shade can overlap its neighbours, several can be grouped into a layered composition across a larger ceiling. Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Its two metre span suits dining rooms and hallways with the ceiling height and floor space to carry it, working just as well as a single statement piece or as part of a grouped composition across a double height space. Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996, when Joana Bover turned a sketch drawn for an architect friend's project into the start of a lighting brand. The company still designs and produces its lighting in Spain, working from Cardedeu near Barcelona. Outdoors, Bover is known for pieces hand woven from synthetic fibre, and indoors that same craft shows up in intricate wood lattice fixtures such as the Dome family, built from over 170 individually woven beech strips. Across the range there's a distinctly Mediterranean design sensibility. Bover opened a subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012, bringing the brand to the US.
