A Linear Pendant Built to Quiet a Large Room

The Noren S/151.2 Wide is the largest size in Bover's acoustic pendant range, running 151cm across so it can cover a proper span of ceiling on its own. Underneath the fabric shade it works as hard on sound as it does on light, absorbing the kind of noise that builds up in a big open room rather than just adding another light fitting to it. In Terracotta, the felt exterior brings a warm, earthy tone to a fitting that's usually chosen for purely practical reasons.

A Layered Acoustic Build

The shade itself is built in layers rather than from a single material. A core of Basotect, an open cell acoustic foam, does the actual sound absorbing, wrapped in a fire resistant Crevin fabric for the visible surface. An aluminium frame holds the whole shade in shape, with MDF used in the internal structure. It's this combination, not just the size, that lets the Noren S/151.2 work as a genuine acoustic treatment rather than a light with a felt cover.

How It Works

Light comes from an integrated LED running at 3000K warm white with a CRI of 95, so colours underneath stay true rather than washing out. It's DALI dimmable, giving smooth control over brightness rather than a simple on or off switch. Choose the Down Lighting version, which runs at 20.5W and 3000 lumens directed downward, or the Up and Down Lighting version, which adds a further 7W and 1040 lumens thrown upward to soften the ceiling as well. The suspension is adjustable, with a drop that can be set within a 1200mm to 3700mm range depending on the ceiling it's going into. Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where It Works Best

Its scale and acoustic performance suit large open plan offices, restaurant dining rooms and commercial interiors where echo is as much of a problem as poor lighting. It also works well spanning a long reception desk, boardroom table or bar, anywhere a single fitting needs to cover real width rather than being one of several smaller pendants in a row.

Bover got its start in Barcelona in 1996, when a sketch Joana Bover drew for an architect friend turned into the idea for a lighting company. It has stayed rooted in Spain since, still designing and manufacturing from its base in Cardedeu, close to Barcelona.
