The Noren S/151.2 Wide is the largest format in Bover's Noren range, a 151cm long linear pendant that treats acoustics as seriously as light. Behind its slim aluminium housing sits a sound absorbing core, so it works as much like an acoustic panel as it does a light fitting, ideal for open plan offices, meeting rooms and busy commercial dining spaces where noise builds up fast.

Built Around a Sound Absorbing Core

Inside the aluminium housing sits a layer of Basotect sound absorbing foam backed by MDF, wrapped in a thermoplastic fire resistant fabric known as Crevin. That combination gives the Noren its acoustic performance, soaking up reflected sound in the room below rather than just adding another light on the ceiling. The whole fitting is finished in a soft, neutral Light Grey that sits quietly in a commercial interior rather than drawing attention to itself.

How It Works

The Noren S/151.2 Wide is available as Down Lighting or Up and Down Lighting. The Down Lighting version sends all of its output downward at 20.5W and 3000 lumens. The Up and Down Lighting version keeps that same downward output and adds a further 7W and 1040 lumens upward, washing the ceiling with light as well as lighting the desks or tables below. Both run at a warm 3000K colour temperature with a high CRI of 95 for accurate colour rendering, and the fitting is Dali dimmable, so it pairs with a Dali driver and controller rather than a standard dimmer switch. The drop is adjustable from 1200mm to 3700mm, giving flexibility for different ceiling heights.

Where It Works Best

Its scale and acoustic core suit open plan offices, meeting rooms and commercial dining spaces where a run of hard surfaces would otherwise make the room noisy. Hung singly over a long table or in a row along a bank of desks, it does double duty as ambient light and a quiet reduction in echo, without looking like an acoustic panel bolted onto the ceiling.

Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996, when Joana Bover turned a sketch for an architect friend's project into the beginnings of a lighting brand. The company still designs and manufactures its lighting in Spain, working from Cardedeu near Barcelona. Outdoors, Bover is known for hand woven synthetic fibre pieces, and indoors for intricate wood lattice fixtures such as the Dome family, built from over 170 individually woven beech strips. Across both, the designs carry a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility. Bover opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.
