A Linear Pendant That Quiets the Room

The Bover Noren S/123 is a narrow, 123cm linear pendant built to do two jobs at once. It lights a table or counter below while its felt wrapped body absorbs some of the ambient noise moving through the room. It reads as a clean architectural strip rather than a typical acoustic panel, so it suits spaces where you want both quieter and better lit.

A Considered, Layered Build

In Light Grey, the Noren S/123 has a soft, neutral tone that sits comfortably in offices, meeting rooms and open plan spaces without drawing too much attention to itself. Underneath that finish sits an aluminium frame wrapped in Basotect sound absorbing foam and a flame resistant fabric called Crevin, with MDF used at the ends. Each layer does its own job. The aluminium holds the shape, the foam does the acoustic work, and the fabric gives it the finished look.

How It Works

The Noren S/123 comes in two configurations. The Down Lighting version runs a 15.3W integrated LED that puts out 2295 lumens straight down, while the Up and Down Lighting version keeps that same downlight and adds a 7W, 1040 lumen uplight that washes the ceiling above. Both use a 3000K warm white LED with a CRI of 95, so colours read accurately underneath it, and both are DALI dimmable rather than fitted with a simple on or off switch. The drop is adjustable between 850mm and 3350mm, so it can be set to suit the ceiling height it is hanging from. The LED is integrated rather than a replaceable bulb.

Where It Works Best

Its length and acoustic lining suit offices, meeting rooms and other commercial interiors where a long table or bank of desks needs even light without adding to the background noise. It works equally well running along a boardroom table, over a bank of hot desks, or above a run of counters where a bit of quiet matters as much as the light itself.

Bover began in Barcelona in 1996, when Joana Bover sketched the first piece for an architect friend's project. The brand still designs and produces its lighting in Spain, based in Cardedeu near Barcelona, and carries a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility across its range, from hand woven outdoor pieces to more technical, engineered fittings like the Noren. Bover opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.
