A Linear Light That Also Quiets the Room

The Bover Noren S/123.2 is an acoustic pendant that spans a full 123cm, built for spaces where sound bounces around as much as light needs to travel. Rather than treating light and noise as two separate problems, it fits an LED light source into a broad felt covered panel that pulls sound out of the air around it. At 123cm wide, it makes sense above a boardroom table, a run of desks or a reception counter, anywhere a normal pendant would just add another hard surface to an already noisy room.

A Soft, Acoustic Surface in Light Grey

Underneath its light grey fabric cover sits a Basotect foam core, the same lightweight sound absorbing foam used in acoustic ceiling panels, backed by an MDF panel and wrapped in a thermoplastic fire resistant fabric from Crevin. The aluminium frame keeps the whole panel light enough to hang cleanly, while the fabric finish reads as calm and neutral against most interior palettes rather than drawing attention to itself.

How It Works

The Noren S is available as a downlighting only version, or as an up and down lighting version that adds a softer wash across the ceiling as well as light below. Downlighting draws 15.3W for 2295 lumens, and where fitted, uplighting adds a further 7W and 1040 lumens, all at a warm 3000K and a high 95 CRI for accurate colour. It's DALI dimmable, so it can sit on the same control system as other DALI fittings in an office fit out, and the drop is adjustable from 1200mm to 3700mm so it can be hung to suit the ceiling height it's going into.

Where It Works Best

Its acoustic core and commercial build suit offices, boardrooms, open plan work floors and hospitality spaces where conversation and equipment noise build up over the course of a day. Hung over a meeting table, a reception desk or a run of hot desks, it does double duty as a light fitting and a piece of quiet, considered noise control.

Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996 by Joana Bover, growing out of a sketch she drew for an architect friend's project. The brand still designs and produces its lighting in Spain, working out of Cardedeu near Barcelona, and carries a Mediterranean design sensibility across everything from its hand woven outdoor pieces to more technical, engineered fittings like the Noren. Bover opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.

What's the difference between the Down Lighting and Up and Down Lighting versions?
The Down Lighting version sends all its output downward at 15.3W and 2295 lumens, while the Up and Down Lighting version adds a further 7W and 1040 lumens upward, softening the ceiling above it as well.
