A Linear Pendant Built to Quiet a Room

The Noren S/123.2 Wide is as much an acoustic tool as it is a light source. Its long, rectangular body runs 123cm across, wide enough to sit as a single wide band of light and sound absorption above a table, desk run or reception counter. In Dark Grey, the felt exterior reads as understated and architectural rather than decorative, so it settles into a commercial or contemporary interior without drawing attention to itself.

A Layered Acoustic Build

Underneath the Dark Grey fabric sits a core of Basotect, an open structure acoustic foam that absorbs sound rather than reflecting it back into the room. That foam is wrapped in a fire resistant Crevin fabric and set inside an aluminium frame, with MDF used in the internal structure. The combination is what lets the Noren do two jobs at once, lighting the space below it while softening the noise bouncing around a busy room.

How It Works

Light comes from an integrated LED running at 3000K warm white with a CRI of 95, so colours underneath render accurately. It's DALI dimmable, giving fine control over brightness rather than a simple on or off switch. Choose the Down Lighting version for light directed straight down at 15.3W and 2295 lumens, or the Up and Down Lighting version, which adds 7W and 1040 lumens thrown upward to soften the ceiling as well. The pendant hangs on an adjustable suspension, with a drop that can be set anywhere between 120cm and 370cm to suit the ceiling height it's going into.

Where It Works Best

Its scale and acoustic performance suit open plan offices, meeting rooms, restaurants and reception areas, anywhere a large room needs both light and a reduction in echo. It also works well over a long boardroom or dining table, where its width matches the table rather than looking like an afterthought hung above it.

Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996 by Joana Bover, after a sketch she drew for an architect friend turned into the idea for a lighting brand. The company still designs and produces its lighting in Spain, working from its base in Cardedeu near Barcelona. Alongside the hand woven outdoor pieces the brand is best known for, and the intricate wood lattice indoor fixtures such as the Dome family, built from over 170 individually woven strips of beech, Bover carries the same Mediterranean sensibility into acoustic pieces like the Noren. The brand opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.
